A lucrative market vs. a new born independent state

Afghanistan is a brother country to Pakistan and both share a long range of border which has now been protected with refreshed policies from Pakistan’s side to protect the country from the terrorist attacks and having sheltered terrorists inside its borders due to the open borders.

Afghanistan is now in the process of starting its new trade line with Indian for starting the import export process between the two states.

Reason of Using Air Freight

As there is no direct linkage between India and Afghanistan through ocean, the two countries have decided to use air cargo as the source of exchanging goods. Afghanistan uses Pakistan’s Karachi port for its trade and as Pakistan allows only limited goods to be exported to India and no goods to be imported from India, the air freight option is being adopted by the two sides. Afghanistan is hoping to get access to the world through this trading line, as India is a big market and through it the products will reach the world and prove to be a business gainer. Also a land-locked country like Afghanistan has to take serious steps to make positive connections with the world and improve its economy.

Traded Goods:

The Afghan Officials have said that there is a lot of potential in Afghanistan for trading its goods but due to no direct linkage this business faces a lot of difficulties. For this

they are going to use air freight to make the boundaries of business expand on both sides between the two.

For this the Afghan official Khalid Payenda has said that they have fruit and carpets as exporting items and as form Prime Minister Modi fruits and carpets and things alike are also offered to be exported to Afghanistan.

Reason of Pakistan for not letting Use its Land:

Pakistan has its strong reason for not letting the two sides use its land for trade purposes. The first and foremost is the terrorism that is being faced by the country which is believed to be from both the countries. The militant groups operating in the two countries are said to have a major hand in the increasing terrorist activities in Pakistan. So, for securing the nation from such terrorist attacks Pakistan has made strict policies against allowing for using its territory for such purposes by its two neighbours. Pakistan further states that they are already in state of war and are trying to eliminate such activities from their land, such a use of land will further put their country at risk.

Another reason is that due to recent incidents on the LOC, the relationship of India and Pakistan have deteriorated and the relations with Afghanistan are also strained after the series attacks in the capital Kabul which they say is due to the failure on Pakistan side to control the militant groups within its boundaries.

The two governments have started to form an infrastructure to ensure safe and smooth trade between the two countries. The officials of both sides agree that terrorism can only be defeated with joint efforts and that Air cargo India will join hands with Afghanistan on such a mission.
